Athens Art Lovers … You have our blessing to stay out extremely late this Saturday night. In fact, by all means, pull an all-nighter. Because this weekend, nearly two dozen of the city’s liveliest galleries and cultural institutions will join forces to host the uplifting art event “Art Night Athens” from dusk ‘til dawn. Best of all, everything is completely free!
On Saturday, September 23, 2017, from 8pm to 6am, 23 of the city’s cultural venues will welcome Athenians with an after-hours feast of visual arts, music, dance, theater, photography, videos, street art and theatre – both indoors and outdoors.
Just some of the highlights of Art Night Athens 2017 will include: guided tours of the fascinating Maria Callas exhibition, stirring orchestral musical performances hosted in museum gardens, viewings of the night sky with the Doridis telescope at the National Observatory, multi-lingual outdoor readings from Homer’s Odyssey, and open-air cinema screenings of seminal British classics such as Withnail & I.
The initiative Art Night Athens was jointly assembled by Athens cultural ambassadors Atenistas and “White Nights of Culture”, an organization that calls on cultural bodies such as Atenistas to overcome a city’s technical and economic barriers by making artistic resources freely accessible to its citizens, with the aim of creating optimism, fueling hope and bringing people closer to the art and its unique effect on the human mind.
HOW DOES ART NIGHT ATHENS WORK?
– A map with all the details of the program will already be posted on the internet, but also, browsers will be able to obtain a guide-map form from wherever they start browsing to freely map the course of the visit.
– On your mobile! Practical details of the events, hosts and agents will also be provided by the Clio Muse mobile application.
– And the night does not stop! From 2 to 4 in the morning, action will culminate with an after-party in bars in Athens that will offer a cocktail called “Art Night Athens” or a drink at a very privileged price.
