WHAT: Grab your best viewing spot as Athens rolls out the pomp and pageantry of its annual Greek Independence Day celebrations with a series of colourful street parades.
From 11am on the Friday, students from schools all over the capital (and other youth associations) will march in their uniforms and traditional dress through central Athens (past the Hellenic Parliament in Syntagma).
On the 25th, the grand military parade will begin its march mid-morning from Vasillissis Sofias Avenue, past Hellenic Parliament and the Academy of Athens, to the soundtrack of civil and military marching bands, followed by a procession of military vehicles. The Greek President will attend, along with other dignitaries.
