Even long-time residents of Athens can get confused about when the shops are and aren’t open for business in the capital. With stores opening for Sunday trading this weekend (November 5) from 11am-6pm, as part of the annual interim sales period, Insider has the low-down on official trading hours throughout the rest of the year.
Since new bail-out reforms concerning our retail trading hours were implemented earlier this year, shops located in “touristic” areas of Greece – such as the center of Athens, the Sounio beach strip, parts of Piraeus, Thessaloniki and around Athens International Airport – are now allowed to open 30 Sundays each year.
Aside from staying open this Sunday, shops will also trade on the two Sundays before Christmas (December 17 and December 24); as well as the last Sunday of the year, (December 31).
